Easy Books

As a sole proprietor my bookkeeping needs aren't huge, but this is plenty to see how my money is working out, who hasn't paid an invoice yet, and track everything I need for GST reporting.

This is the best app I have ever used.
I run 2 complete sets of books for two completely different types of businesses and it copes with everything.
I use all of the features including time tracking, invoicing and GST reporting and there is nothing I can't do.
The best thing is that you can do everything anywhere anytime you have a spare couple of minutes.
I haven't written a review before but these guys deserve praise for a great app and really good customer support.

Easy Books is correctly named. It really is easy and well thought out. It is flexible and easy to correct mistakes. Great for business people who prefer doing business rather than spending days doing complex entries. The only two downsides are multi-currency is not supported which I wanted, and the price of syncing between 2 devices is too high. I got round the multi currency problem by creating a separate company for each currency and then merging them manually at the end of the year to produce one figure. Not ideal but the competitor which did handle multi-currency was too complex to use for a regular business person. I got round the syncing problem by emailing the back-up between devices. Not ideal again but it will do and it saves £40 per year. Perhaps Easy Books will look at these two areas at some point and I will then give them 5 star instead.

Having used sage for 6 years on pc, started using this app on mac. Really easy to use and to amend entries unlike sage. When you add in all the add-ons to make it useable it is a bit pricey (nearing £100) but for my use running my own small business it is brilliant. Would get 5 stars if add-on prices were more reasonable!

I am amazed at the general star rating for this app, it is a full blown simple to operate bookkeeping solution and it's up to you to choose how much detail is needed from a stand alone cash book akin to Quicken to a full set of books and monthly/annual reports.

I contacted Easy Books a few months ago and suggested a search option would be a nice facility eg search all entries for a particular amount or supplier name etc, I actually received a response saying will take my comments on board. A couple of upgrades later it's there, brilliant.

Price; apart from the online back up service what's the problem, you get to try it for a few pence and then if you like it pay a few pounds for the real deal, and this no annual licence renewal like some packages.

Looking at the upgrades etc that have occurred over the last 6 months I suspect that this App will eventually end up as a full blown accounts package, myself I own a small insurance brokerage and manage quite easily to produce a full balance sheet PL etc and at a cost of pennies compared to most other business expenses.

One more small request from me to Easy Books would be see what you can do about the bank account reconciliation format / process yours is ok but Quicken (Not Quick Books) is more intuitive, it's the only thing I sometimes struggle with, plus give a PC version to sync to.

Do not be fooled by this program if you add all the modules you will need it is going to cost you. Hardly in keeping with a reasonable apps. This should have been pulled.

I have been using this for a few months now and I am loving the ability to do everything on the move. It does everything I need very simply and efficiently. Also great value compared to other pc accounting programs. Keep up the good work.

For my current business , this apps is excellent . Love it all.
However, I would love to see that this apps can do inventory and mileage tracking. I want to be able to track mileage cost, like 1 mile =0.50... And be able to track begin inventory cost and end of year inventory cost.... For me, I am willing to pay extra dollars for these feature. May not work for everyone but at least for me. Back up is great. Even better if it has a Windows version.

1.very flexible almost every account can be modified to suit personal needs.
2.real double entry system and well designed. Easy adjust refund, credit card and even payroll.
3. A little bit accounting knowledge helps a lot. However, every one can handle basic transaction.
4. Strong report system, tax calculation, trace GST HST ( in Canada).
5. Small in size, efficient, sync with desktop application.

I thought this app looked promising until I saw the pricing structure for in-app purchases. You could end up spending close to £100 making it fully-featured, with the minimum spend over £20 if you enter more than 120 transactions. Mental.

The app itself is very good when it works... We purchased the old app which was really good, then things went wrong! Apple had an update for the iPad which wiped everything off, we then tried to put all apps back on, not a problem... then we descovered that all our work was gone and the app wouldn't pick up that we had already paid for the full version.
The app has now updated to the new version 4.8 but still doesn't recognise that we have paid already for the full version, and now won't let us press any of the buttons to pay again or restore... GREAT! On going problem please help!!!!!!!

I can't justify purchasing this yet, will still use Quicken on my PC (ugh) until I can write up a labor estimate for each job. The client then approves it, or not, and the final invoice is generated from the revised estimate. There must be other businesses that would need this feature besides mine, interior design.

I've been using QuickBooks, which I loathe, for seven years. Since I might need to upgrade to OSX "Lion" (aka "Vista") I've been looking into QuickBooks alternatives because Intuit (shudder) doesn't deserve any more of my money. EasyBooks has a nice interface and a nice pricetag, but lacks one crucial feature: the ability to download transactions directly from my bank. This is a great timesaving feature of QuickBooks and is non-negotiable for an accounting program.

Also, if EasyBooks had an intelligent way to AUTOMATICALLY attach SCANNED receipts to DOWNLOADED transactions, all the better. Software exists that can recognize fields in a scanned receipt (eg Neat Receipts). What is needed is the ability to automatically recognize that a scanned or photographed receipt belongs to a particular downloaded transaction. That is what computers should be doing for us - eliminating such tedious work!

But a great start!

I've been using this app since April 2011. I'm using it to record my expenditure and also to create my invoices and does this pretty well. However, when I create an invoice to send and add my invoice reference, i.e. the name of the project/job and add in my Purchase Order reference. All is good UNTIL I send another invoice - all the information relating to my previous invoice gets carried over to the next invoice and when I 'update' my references I lose all my references on my previous invoice. If I need to go back and find an invoice relating to a job I invoiced for last month, all the references will be replaced by that of my most recent invoice. It does this regardless of which customer I use. I have raised this with the developer a while back he said it was a 'feature'.
I doubt very much if I'll carry on using this app in the next tax year. I doubt if the developer cares - he's had my money...

I'm a small beauty salon owner and this is a very simple bookkeeping app. I did have to pay $29.99 for additional transactions but considering what I would have to pay monthly for other online bookkeeping software online it's a steal. The reports are perfect for preparing taxes however I could do without the double entry bookkeeping which is why only 4 stars...however for the price and it being Very user friendly I do recommend.

This is the first app I have bothered to review - because it's that good…

Since commencing business in 2001, I have used MYOB and found it too cumbersome (and expensive), moved to MS Excel spreadsheets; and now to Easybooks. The shift was prompted by wanting a portable solution to run on iPad.

Easybooks is proving to be a bit of a gem. The more I use it the happier I am about moving to it. I run cash-based accounting, but the app is equally good for accrual. I spend less time inputing transactions than for MYOB or spreadsheets which is my main bugbear, and the data backs-up to iTunes with a date stamp and/or by email. I have tried restoring from backups and am happy with reliability and stability.

At present I do not subscribe to the online syncing service, but will reconsider when the mac version is released (due January 2012). You would need to subscribe to online syncing if you use more than 1 iDevice ($31.99 for 6 months, secure but steep), so that changes from each device are merged. I don't need it and like to keep subs costs to minimum.

Reports are adequate, all I need. Would like to be able to customise reports in future mac version. Would also be good if transactions could be imported from file in mac version. I think if these 2 features are included then I would be close to iHeaven.

After years of frustration with cumbersome accounting software along comes EasyBooks. So pared down and simple, it's great for my small business. Excellent swift response to a request for smaller sized .pdf receipts for emailing - thank you! All I need now is the promised Mac version (hint hint)

This app is exactly what I was after! Only thing that irks me a little is the order of the date, i would love the day before the month..perhaps it's an Aussie thing. Other than that quirky complaint it is an excellent app! I Will be upgrading to the full version of transactions once my 120 free quota has been reached! May even pay for the invoices, they are rather snazzy.
