Making Tax Digital for VAT: who it applies to

VAT has changed!

Making Tax Digital for VAT started on 1 April 2019 for VAT registered businesses with taxable turnover above the VAT registration threshold. Since 1 April 2022 it applies to every VAT registered business, whatever the turnover: you keep your VAT records digitally and send your VAT returns to HMRC through software. This initiative is designed to turn the UK tax system into something more efficient and simple for taxpayers. If you are not registered for VAT, Making Tax Digital for VAT does not apply to you, whatever your turnover. The VAT registration threshold is a separate question: it has been £90,000 since 1 April 2024. Either way, you can still use EasyBooks to help you do your books and run your business smoothly.
