If you already have an iOS device signed in to your Online Sync account it's easy to link a new device.
In this video I have an iPod Touch which I've been using for a while. I've just bought an iPad and I want to add it to my account and keep everything in sync.
The sign in area now includes a new "Options" button. Tapping it tells the iPad to look for nearby devices running Easy Books.
I use the Online Syncing screen on my iPod Touch to join the iPad to my account. Note the option to "Link another device". The iPod displays nearby devices in a list. Note only devices running Easy Books with "Request login" turned on are shown. I tap the listed device to link it to my account.
The iPod contacts the sync service to request a one-time password for the iPad. I accept the connection on the iPad and the password is transferred. The iPad signs in with the temporary password and obtains its own login token.
Now I can choose from the list of businesses I have in my sync account. Once I download it to the iPad, all changes I make on the iPod Touch are sent to the iPad to keep it up to date.
The Online Sync service provides Continuous Online Backup of your accounts. You can try the service out for two weeks, just register for an account. If you have more than one device, the service will keep your business accounts in sync on all your Macs, iPhones and iPads.
You might find the service useful if:
Online Sync is not essential for Easy Books to function, it is an optional extra. For more information about the service, see What is Online Sync? in the online help.
Easy! Just go to sync.easybooksapp.com/user/register. We'll need your email address in case you forget your password. But don't worry: we'll never pass on your email address to anyone. And in case you were wondering; no, we won't bombard you with lots of email.
We're using Apple's peer-peer networking, which makes use of Bluetooth and/or WiFi to transfer information between devices. This is possible even for devices which are on different networks, as long as they are still near to each other.
Turning on the option Request Login in the iPad (which has no Online Sync password) starts a broadcast to any local devices listening.
On devices that have a valid login token stored for connecting to Online Sync, navigating to the Online Syncing screen causes them to listen for any nearby devices without login information. If any are found, these are listed. The transfer of login information is initiated from the device with an existing token by tapping the name of a device listed.
A temporary one-time password is requested from the sync service and sent to the device over an encrypted connection. This is used by the new device to obtain its own login token. The temporary password expires after a few seconds or immediately if used to sign in.
